Verona, a city where art and culture come together to give you wonderful memories.
The historic center is undoubtedly a place rich in characteristic sites to visit at any time.
Piazza Bra
The starting point can only be Piazza Bra.
Here you can admire the walls of the Arena di Verona, home to one of the most famous opera festivals in Europe.
The city’s other monuments can be reached by taking a stroll along the nearby river, which will amaze you.
Starting from Corso Porta Nuova, Verona’s shopping street, which connects Piazza Bra to Piazza Erbe.
For many centuries, Piazza Erbe was the hub of Verona’s social and economic life.
In Roman times, it was home to the Forum, whose length is preserved in the current square.
There were the Capitol, temples, and thermal baths, connected by a portico with numerous shops.
During the communal period, it was the seat of political power, and with the Scaligeri family, it became a lively center of arts and commerce.
During the Venetian and Austrian dominations, it housed the civil and criminal courts, but remained the favorite meeting place and market for the people of Verona.
Starting the visit on the eastern side of the square, on the right from Via Mazzini, we find the 13th-century PALAZZO DELLA RAGIONE .
Its rooms housed the College of Notaries, the Silk Customs House, the Magistrate’s Court, the Court of Assizes, and the prisons.
Giuseppe Barbieri
Devastated by several fires, it owes its current appearance to the architect Giuseppe Barbieri, who had the façade renovated in a neoclassical style very different from the original Romanesque structure.
Castelvecchio, the city’s most impressive monument, and the Roman Theater of Verona, where theatrical performances are still held during the summer, are both just a few minutes from the Arena.
No visit to Verona is complete without a look at Juliet’s house and her balcony, famous throughout the world for the love story of Romeo and Juliet.
