Prosecco wine
You will be guided from Venice to the Prosecco area with a stop in Asolo.
It is home to Italy’s leading wine school and the Experimental Institute for Viticulture.
Asolo is a tiny agricultural and artisan town in the province of Treviso and is part of the Club of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.
Its name recalls the splendor of the court of Caterina Cornaro, who became Queen of Cyprus.
She ceded the island to the Republic of Venice in exchange for Asolo.
From 1489 to 1509, the castle on top of the hill became Caterina’s prestigious residence.
Thanks to its enchanting panoramic position among the hills, also painted by Giorgione, Asolo has always attracted artists and writers from all over Europe.
Among them were Giosuè Carducci, who called it “the city of a hundred horizons”; the English poet Robert Browning; and Pietro Bembo, one of the most famous writers of the 16th century.
The musician Gian Francesco Malipiero
found inspiration for some of his compositions here.
Eleonora Duse, the famous actress and lover of Gabriele D’Annunzio, spent the last years of her life in an elegant palace and was then buried in the small and charming cemetery of Sant’Anna, opposite Monte Grappa.
The symbol of Asolo is the Fortress that dominates the landscape from the top of Monte Ricco, offering spectacular views.
From here you can see the historic center of the city: Piazza Garibaldi with its 16th-century fountain, the Castle, which now houses the Duse Theater.
As well as the ancient Duomo, which houses Lorenzo Lotto’s beautiful “Assunta.”
